Think Before Posting about Sickness

I recently saw an Etsy seller's instagram photo of a thermometer with a 103+ degree reading. This person had the flu. My immediate thought was "Damn! Even if I wanted to buy a ____ from him, I would wait at least a week." Call me crazy but I don't want somebody with a high grade fever handling the things that I buy.

I am not an extreme germaphobe. I could not be an extreme germaphobe and spend 5-10 hours weekly in thrift stores! But I do try to avoid contagious people, and that includes vendors of all kinds - foods and crafts.

Everybody gets sick - it's natural. And I know posting a picture of your thermometer, or tweeting about your head cold, or facebooking your kid's stomach virus is showing the true, real, authentic side of your life, but I entreat you as a seller to think about the message you're sending your customers - order from me, germs guaranteed!

This is just one person's opinion, and the person is not a microbiologist.

New Year, New News!

Hello vintage t-shirt fans!

Couple new tidbits to share for 2013.

First, I started selling t-shirts on the sweet t-shirt lovers website, Defunkd. Owner Jimmy J is a true aficionado, so obsessed (in a great way) with t-shirts he's made the vintage t-shirt collective, complete with the priceless resource - Brandpedia.

My t-shirts can be found here: Skippy Haha Vintage on Defunkd.

Defunkd is for t-shirts ONLY (keep shopping my Etsy store for awesome vintage sweaters, jackets, western shirts, decor) - and the t-shirts I've posted on Defunkd are discounted a couple of dollars from Etsy. Get a great deal from a great website.

Secondly, I added a new section to my Etsy shop: SALE $10 dollar tees

These shirts are extremely sweet, extremely authentic, extremely cheap. All sizes, colors, ages. At $10 a pop they won't last long so get em while they're hot!

My Old Clothes

My love affair with vintage t-shirts started young.

I was born in 1976 and consider the heyday of vintage t-shirts to have been 1976-1984, some of my most formative years.

My grandfather was a liquor distributor and my first night shirts were freebie schnapps t-shirts he gave to us. Must have been very funny to see a 6 year old girl in a "Pott and Coke" rum shirt.

Luckily my mother saved many of my old clothes in a cedar chest since the 80's.

I am starting to sell them on etsy. they are not really priced to move, and a lot of their value is sentimental, but I think they are amazingly sweet and can share them with the world.

Without further ado, my old clothes.

History: Wheels Across America Duffel Bag

Wheels Across America Duffel Bag

In 1989, Bill Duff rolled himself in a wheelchair from Los Angeles to New York City in an effort to raise money for paralysis and bring awareness to spinal injuries. His journey was called Wheels Across America.

What the Flock?

I have started flocking up 100% authentic t-shirts and sweatshirts from the 70's and 80's.

The fuzzy felt iron-on letters are called "flock."

I take real vintage shirts, flaws and all, and iron letters on them.

They are all available in this section of my Etsy shop:  What the Flock

Nobody has to know that they are not straight from a thrift store.

They are quirky and charming and one-of-a-kind. Just like you!

Custom orders are welcome, please contact me to check out availability of blanks.

Behind the T-shirt: Meteor Crater Arizona

In February 2005, I drove cross-country with my brother and a Green Giant Little Sprout telephone. We took the mid-southern route along Interstate 40, which is the old fabled Route 66.

Not far off I-40 in Winslow, Arizona is a landmark called Meteor Crater.

(from meteorcrater.com) -
Meteor Crater is the breath-taking result of a collision between a piece of an asteroid traveling at 26,000 miles per hour and planet Earth approximately 50,000 years ago. Today, Meteor Crater is nearly one mile across, 2.4 miles in circumference and more than 550 feet deep.

Here is a 70's or early 80's souvenir t-shirt from this very place. It is soft and thin and silky and lovely. It may have been touched by aliens or alien dust.

T-shirt available on Etsy here.

Behind the T-shirt: A Love Story

Vintage t-shirts are like time capsules. Wearable time capsules. Some are even romantic and chivalrous.

Here's a shirt from the early 80's Logan County High School in Kentucky.

Ralph personalized it with his name in flock ironed on the back.

And he personalized it with his girlfriend's name down the sleeve - "Fayetta."

I googled them and they are married with kids.

Pretty sweet!

See the listing here.

a flock of t-shirts

flock (noun) - finely powdered wool, cloth, etc., used for producing a velvet-like pattern on wallpaper or cloth or for coating metal.

many vintage t-shirts in the 70s and 80s were personalized with iron-on's at home and at booths in the mall.

the fuzzy felt letters used to spell out words are called 'flock.'

if you ask me, t-shirts do not get more one-of-a-kind and interesting.

check out all the SHV flock shirts currently in stock here: flock of t-shirts
