1986 Pound Purries Cat in Original Box

In the mid 80's, a stuffed animal was created which introduced kids to the idea of "Adopt a Shelter Pet." They were also riffing on the success of the adoption concept behind Cabbage Patch Kids.

The plush toys were called Pound Puppies (dogs) and Pound Pur-r-ries (cats). They were available in two sizes - big and small - and came in a box that looked like a chain link kennel.

Each pet had a PP logo on its butt.

Each pet came with care instructions, and a mail-in offer for a pet ID name tag.

They spawned a TV special, TV series, and a feature film.

Way to go little shelter pets!

Great Smoky Mountains - Cherokee Black Bear Waving Hello

the black bear on this t-shirt seems to be waving his paw.

which would be strange except that i know from experience that bears have very flexible wrists.

Wrangler Wrange Coat - made from Yellow Labs?

During the glorious 1970's, Wrangler produced a studly though punny jean jacket called the Wrangler Wrange Coat.

Perfect for ropin' doggies, mending fences, and building campfires.

It's fully lined with soft, machine washable, faux sheepskin acrylic fleece.

It is thick and warm and looks like sheepskin, but it is not.

It also looks like damp yellow Labradorskin, but it is not.

Behind the T-shirt: Tillie the All Time Teller

Florida National Banks' Tillie says, "I'll make your life easier."

Who is Tillie?

She's the ATM.

(via Wells Fargo History Blog: Tillie the All Time Teller)
First National Bank of Atlanta  was concerned that the relatively new automated teller machine (ATM) it introduced in 1974 would appear cold and difficult to use.

In those days, customers were accustomed to walking inside a bank and chatting with a pleasant teller. So First National named their ATM “Tillie the All Time Teller,” and put the face of a smiling blonde girl on the front of the machine. “Tillie” looked inviting to customers and suggested that the machine was highly user-friendly.

Did it work? In a word, yes. Tillie launched one of the most successful ATM systems in the banking industry.

This particular shirt says "GO GATORS" on the back. Yay unnecessary punctuation!

What the Flock...and Stencil

Sometimes I find blank vintage t-shirts and sweatshirts.

Sometimes I iron flock letters onto them.

I just started printing some with vintage stencils.

THAT BITE WAS BIG.

This story behind this shirt begins with a 4 year old girl by a campfire.

She had a s'more.

Her uncle asked for a bite.

She hesitantly agreed.

He took a bite.

She yelled, "THAT BITE WAS BIG!"

Llama Lovers!

Llamas are fun! They're like little party camels.

How about an 80's travel mug (with lid) from the Camp Daniel Boone Llama Treks?

Or maybe a totally rockstar 70's front-tie sweater vest with Llamas all over it?

Vibrant orange and brown stripe hooded sweater with Llamas and POM-POM tie?

Don't forget to brush your Llama's teeth! Taboot taboot.
