free shirts, smoky mountains

time for another fun post in the 'free shirts for bloggers' series.

shutterbug shann is a photographer and writer living in central florida where it's warm enough to actually wear a t-shirt this time of year, but it seems her heart is in asheville. she picked out a couple (of my all time favorite) shirts she liked, and i sent her the one from the great smoky national park to remind her of western north carolina until she is able to move back.

read her blog post here. she is right, it looks way better on her than it did on dolly! thanks shannon!

25 years later: space shuttle challenger disaster

it was january 28, 1986. late morning. i was in mrs. mohrmon's 4th grade classroom at oakwood elementary school. someone came to the door and she started crying. a few minutes later, she wheeled a TV in on a cart and plugged it in and we all watched the challenger shuttle explode into a puff of smoke. things that i thought were risk-free were not.

freakin o-ring seals. (space shuttle challenger disaster on wikipedia)

in 2003 the nasa space shuttle program experienced another tragedy when the space shuttle columbia exploded on re-entry over texas.

free shirts, pine cone dildos

another delightful entry in the 'free shirts for bloggers' series has arrived.

jason bugg is a western north carolina writer with cute pups that look like nacho and holden. he writes a blog full of honesty and humor. he interviewed kenny rogers last week. he tells a heartwarming story about love, lust, rejection, redemption and sewage shoes at his 8th grade dance. it's good.

here's what he had to say about the cowboy shirt i sent. ignore the parts about glistening scabies and pierced douchebags.

tag loving: screen stars

the best way to tell the age of a t-shirt is by looking at the tag. there are some tags that are GUARANTEED to be soft, silky and smooth. the more you wash and wear them, the softer, silkier, and smoother they will get.

if you have a screen stars t-shirt, congratulations, you have a great t-shirt!

they started making screen stars in the mid-late 70s. they were wholesaled blank to screen printers who then customized them. the screen stars blue tag is rare and awesome. these shirts are true vintage gems. the combed cotton means supersoftness. (screen stars blue tag example)

the screen stars white tag is also from that late 70's era. also an amazing and rare t-shirt. (screen stars white tag example)

next you see probably the most common t-shirt tag used for all of the 80s. the screen stars tan and red tag. shirts with this tag usually date from 1980 - 1989. they are well made and flattering and last a long time. the workhorses of the vintage t-shirt world. (screen stars tan and red tag example)

in the late 80s they moved to the black screen stars best tag. these shirts are beefier than the early versions, and it will take you more washings and wearings to get that thin silkiness. still a great tag. (screen stars best example)

basically, you can't go wrong with a screen stars tag.
